So today’s big ‘ol gaming news announcement comes by way of The Secret World Legends, which is the official name of the Secret World revamp discussed during Funcom’s fourth quarter earnings report. To say the information offered came as a bit of a shock to me is a slight understatement, but now that I’ve had a bit more time to process the whole reveal, I’d like to offer up my opinion.

In a game full of tentacled horrors, there are still surprises apparently.

So I’ve been sitting on the news that broke yesterday about the next character arriving in MOBA/ARPG hybrid Master X Master: Statesman from City of Heroes. When it first was provided to me, I was pretty well dumbstruck. As a matter of fact, I’ve been dumbstruck about it for the ten-odd days I had to keep quiet on the matter.

But now that the embargo on the news is lifted, I can talk about my feelings about the matter. And those feelings can essentially be boiled down to a weird jambalaya of confusion paired with the desire to still see MXM succeed while also feeling guilty about having both emotions.

Sometimes, surprises ain’t fun.

It’s a snowy day here where I live. Not the oppressive sort of snow, but the idyllic kind that you see on myriad Christmas cards, where the flakes have been steadily and gently falling. It’s a good day to be dressed down with a mug of freshly brewed chai and just be generally pleased with the simplicity of things.

Why the mise en scène? Because I wanted a reason to use the phrase “mise en scène”. Let’s recap the news!

This week’s MMO news has been full of Elder Scrolls, reminders of games I really should play more, and Conan Exiles cocks. So it’s been a lot of fun to witness, really. Though some stories have, admittedly, been more fun to follow than others.
